 However, the situation can be complicated in practice…

In 2009, Wikileaks published the complete blacklist Norwegian government had provided ISPs.

Wikileaks noted that this blacklist is “generated without judicial or public oversight and is kept secret by the ISPs using it”, and added that “unaccountability is intrinsic to such a secret censorship system”.

Wikileaks drew comparisons between the Norwegian blacklist and the Thai one, where politically dissenting sites were blocked under the guise of preventing child pornography.

Do I need a VPN for Norway?

It is a common mistake to think that VPNs are necessary only in the countries where the Internet is strictly censored (for instance, China). Actually there is no person in the world that would NOT benefit from a VPN subscription.

Just think…

Every 5th person in the world lost money in view of cyber-attacks in 2018

Cyber-crime is one of the thriftiest types of illegal activity. It is the least stressful way for the adversaries to steal money through digital devices, as it allows doing it without being exposed for months or even years.

VPNs prevent such attacks!

In case you pay for services via the Internet, you need a VPN in Norway.

Norway is one of 31 European countries that restrict torrenting websites

The country is far from being friendly to people downloading torrent files. It is concerned with the copyright issues. VPN services may be used in Norway to change a local IP address into an IP of a torrent friendly country like Switzerland or Mexico. Besides, it encrypts user’s traffic so that no one will manage to track his/her activity on the Internet.

Subscribe for a VPN if you are going to seed in Norway.

Most of Asian and African countries restrict the majority of websites

As a rule the residents of Norway plan their vacation by the seaside. Thailand, Goa, Saudi Arabia and other countries that are located in Asia and Africa are the best places to relax. However, the Internet is severely censored there. Thus, a Norwegian is to think about a VPN beforehand.

Install a VPN on your gadget before going abroad!

Best VPNs for Norway’s conclusion

Despite the fact that Norway is far from being very strict towards websites and services, still there are some restrictions one could face while being in Norway. VPN providers serve to bypass such restrictions easily.

Apart from unbounded access to web services, VPN subscribers get a great range of benefits.

Let’s enumerate them once again:

✑ private correspondence;

✑ anonymous web surfing;

✑ discounts while paying on the Internet;

✑ secure surfing on the net and what not.

That’s incredible but I’ve spent hundreds of dollars and months before I found the way to access the Norwegian biggest digital library. The solution was easy, but I didn’t think it’ll help until I tried. Maybe you know that about half a year ago a lot of Norwegian books were digitalized and became available online. The only difficulty was that it wasn’t possible to open it from outside Norway. I tried proxy servers and failed, but after I’ve read about the importance of IP addresses in such issues. And I decided to try changing my IP through a VPN service. NO problems now! I got access to the richest digital library in the world in Norwegian language! That’s awesome, dreams come true thanks to VPN providers XOXOXO

I wonder why TunnelBear takes only fifth position of your rating if it helps to bypass restriction successfully? First I tried this VPN free first of all and it helped me to unblock HBO Nordic to watch ‘Westworld: my dream’. After it upgraded my account and now I stream whatever I want to stream. It’s a good VPN unblocker. As for me I would recommend it praise as the best VPN for Norway because it allows me to get a Norwegian IP address free. Please, take into account my vote!

Hello Leif! Thank you for an interesting question. I see you have read the article thoroughly. It is true that we do not mention how to use a VPN for games in Norway. However we have worked out a special article about the best VPNs for games that was recently updated. Thus, all the information presented there is valid. Provided that you use Chrome to play online games, it is necessary to run a special Chrome extension. But remember that having installed VPN Chrome extension, only this browser will be protected on the Internet. It is necessary to download and run a VPN client on a device for the protection of your traffic.

Great post! I am keen on this country and know a lot about this country. Indeed, it has a neutral position in regards to internet freedom. Just one example to prove it! A year ago, I read that one of Norwegian newspaper published a report about Vietnam war with a photo of a naked nine-year-old girl. Facebook banned posting this photo on the social network. In response The letter was sent to Mark Zuckerberg, accusing him of abusing his power and breaking the right for freedom of speech.

Hi Maricela! I’m from Norway and this issue disturbed me a lot! I don’t live in a rural area, but sometimes the internet speed in cities isn’t better that the one in villages. Furthermore, I find your question very appropriate because privacy tools (the services that are used for traffic ciphering, not only VPNs but proxies and tor also) always slow down the speed whatever the developers promise. It happens so because of a complicated mechanism of data ciphering-and transferring. So, you shall not believe the services that try to persuade people that they don’t slow down the connection. It will happen whether you like it or not. Most trustworthy VPN providers speak about this openly and it’s definitely a big plus. But you should get upset because of it I’ll open one tip for you. If your aim is to make your personality anonymous on the internet, you may connect to a Norway VPN server and your data will be ciphered with the least possible speed reduction. But as soon as you want to use a VPN with the purpose to go round the restrictions, you can’t connect to a Norway VPN server, as it won’t help you. In such cases, people usually connect to VPN servers that are placed in the countries where access to such sites (or services) is not restricted at all. For example, Netflix is inaccessible in China and Syria, but freely available in the United States of America. So to go round Netflix restrictions and stream it, people living in Syria and China are to connect to one of VPN servers placed in America. In fact I’ve tested 4 VPNs with the purpose to find the fastest VPN for Norway. I’ve tried CyberGhost VPN, Air VPN, Strong VPN and IPVanish. In order to make my research the most true-to-life I connected to the servers placed in the same countries by means of all VPN providers. The findings were quite strange for me because IPVanish showed the best speed while connecting to a Norway VPN server. But as soon as I have changed my IP into an American one, the situation became different. CyberGhost was the fastest in Norway. Air VPN and Strong VPN were less efficient and slow. So I wouldn’t recommend using either of them.

Maricela, thank you for the questions. The VPN services in the list have fast enough servers. Nevertheless, one can’t guarantee you perfect performance if your internet too slow. It also depends on the server location you get connected to. I would recommend you to get connected to the closest servers. German ones are believed to be the fastest, for instance.
