Why to use Firefox add-ons: 3 simple facts you must know

VPN add-ons for Firefox can help to avoid privacy leaks that may occur surfing the net via browsers. Most of the websites download cookies that may reveal much information about. It seems that this information is non-personal, nevertheless your internet privacy stays vulnerable.

What information can be identified about internet users?

There are two types of data that can identified about an internet user. They are WebRTC and User Agents.

What is WebRTC?

According to Wikipedia WebRTC is ‘’a collection of communications protocols and application programming interfaces that enable real-time communication over peer-to-peer connections’’.

This application is included into most of modern browsers (it is in Firefox as well). It is used for maintaining the process of video and voice communication. Regretfully, a computer ‘’on the other side’’ can see the IP address of the other remote computer.

In such a case a VPN for Firefox will be pretty handy as your actual IP address will be hidden. Still, there are such situations when websites with regional limitations can check the original IP address, not that from which the request was made. Firefox VPN add-ons are necessary to deal with it.

What are User Agents?

Alongside with the information about your geo-location and the sites visited, ‘’user agents’’ can be collected.

This information is gathered to make so called ‘’users profiles’’ to know what people get access to their services. And it doesn.t mean that they request for IP addresses. It can be. For instance, the resolution of your screen and the type of your OS.

To avoid it, user agent switchers are used. They provide fake data on the user agent.

Each of your online steps, whether it is your entered query in Google or Facebook surfing, is reflected in your browser history. Surely, you are able to delete all the journal, but it doesn’t mean the information will be deleted from the servers of your ISPs and resources you’ve visited.

Luckily, up-to-date browsers have a built-in function called ‘incognito mode’. But make no mistake!

The ‘incognito mode’ is nothing more than a simple tool that just makes all your online activities unrecorded in the browser history, but what about servers?

Thus, without additional protection all your online activities put your identity and privacy under a risk of being tracked back.

  • Applications

There are so many different apps on official and private digital markets today that you can find anything from apps for sexual compatibility with your partner to worthy business managers.

Nevertheless, you shouldn’t forget to read all the pop-up information before the app is automatically installed on your system. Some of the up-to-date apps request access to your Google Docs or Disk or even GPS, which make it possible to trace not only your digital, but physical steps.

I had a similar problem. I think it may be explained in two ways: if your VPN is ipv4-based and you have ipv6 enabled on your computer, you could access sites or leak info via ipv6. You need to deactivate IPv6 in your network configurations. Another reason: this might be a configuration in your VPN, make sure "Use Default Gateway on Remote Network" is enabled. This means ALL traffic will flow over the VPN. It will remove access to your geo-location.

Kenneth Danny, thanks for participating in commenting. Kenneth, it also may depend on the VPN service you use. If it is free, it will probably lead to some results. You may choose a good alternative from the rating above. Moreover, it would be even better if a VPN provider offer special Firefox VPN add-ons that protect from User agents and Web RTC (more details in this article).
