Users are deceived by fake Prisma application

The popular photo transformation application Prisma for Android users was released on 24th July. During two weeks fake Prisma apps appeared on the Google Play Store.

ESET researchers found out fake apps of different types. Some of them are safe while the others are malicious. It includes adware that implies advertising integrated into software. Besides, your system becomes infected with a malicious virus.

The most dangerous fake application contained Android/TrojanDownloader.Agent.GY. The actions of the trojan depends on the downloaded modules, but the most common means stealing private data such as country, operator name, phone number, language. However, the functionality may be different.

As the experts state, the photo transformation app is not the only one that is pointed out by hackers. Previously the same situation was currently central for Pokemon GO, Subway Surfers, Dubsmash, MSQRD and GTA 5. For avoiding the situation do not download any app before its official release. Moreover, you should read users reviews and check the app’s name and the developer’s name not to fall into a hacker’s trap.
