1. Can you tell us few words about yourself and your VPN service?
My name is Michael; I have been an internet entrepreneur since early 2000s. I started my internet journey via main stream high traffic websites before forming our very first product in 2005. At that time, I started to use VPN myself in order to protect my online privacy and have access to geo restricted services which I liked to use. Since then, I started to be aware of the importance of VPN service and how the demand would get higher in the near future.
In 2009, we started to experiment with our very first VPN service directed to the middle east Iwasel and we have had a good chance in acquiring Arabic speaking customers who are in need for a decent VPN service. Later on we developed and scaled our service for higher portion of users, forming Waselpro and ending with our high end VPN service Bvpn.
2. Please say few words about internet freedom in the past, present and future.
My first encounter with the internet was 1996 when I saw the very first internet cafe in my hometown. I walked in with a friend used the first computer we saw, internet was expensive back then at 2$ per hour, we had no idea how to use internet and started to use random website names. However the guy sitting on the computer next to me used a primitive chat application and advised to use it and this is when my jaw actually dropped seeing a whole new open free world, back then the internet was a place for the under spoken to exchange information and find new large horizons, the more internet became popular the more governments and organization started to control it and try to generate large profit out of it, that was one of the main reasons I started to think that some group of good people have to step up to the challenge and do something about it.
3. Where are your company headquarters?
For the time being, The Netherlands.
4. What are the most significant achievements of your VPN Service?
Since early 2014 our VPN service had a very big advantage over others which is a one click to connect OpenVPN over SSH tunnel that was of the major factors we were able to serve users in countries that have high level DPI firewalls. Later on in 2015 some of these countries upgraded
their firewall and a large scale of VPN services stopped working or became very unstable. At this point we understood that using standard technology that doesn't belong to us and running in opensource mode will always have vulnerabilities caused by being exposed to those who target VPN services. That's when we decided to build our own technology creating a custom polymorphic VPN protocol, that's what I gladly announce, Smoke Tunnel.
5. What is unique about your VPN Service?
We are one of the very few VPN services that is running from behind high DPI firewalls.
6. Why should customers choose your VPN Service instead of your competitors?
We take customer privacy very seriously, we never shared any information about any of our users, We will never hand over any data which is not related to crime, by crime we mean CRIMES, which is common crime anywhere in the world not what to be considered crime in banana republics, like for example starting a blog asking for freedom of speech.
7. Which countries in your opinion are the best to connect to in terms of privacy protection?
8. Which innovations/new technologies are expected in VPN sphere?
Custom protocols for mobile devices is the thing which I wish to see in the near future. However we are taking the lead on that. We are now done implementing our new protocol in Windows/Mac application and we will go into that direction immediately, supporting Android and iOS is on top of our priorities now.
9. Do you personally use VPN account? What for?
Bypass geo restriction, bypass traffic filtering, and secure my data online.
